Traffic On A Sleepless Night '98
by Robert Moskowitz

People
wonder about the origins of traffic
in the city's alimentary canals of highways.
But I don't.
It's just the peristaltic waves of motion
within the city's body unpolitic
sweeping them along
from the multiple mouths
of onramp entries
toward their ultimate destinations
flowing
slowing
halting
peristalting
slower then faster
faster then slower
with partial cycles of progress and inhibition
and constipations of temporary stops
as the p-waves flow ever onward
and finally shitting them out
through the unsphinctered offramps
into their lives beyond the freeways.
